soil loop

2024
ecological research & sound installation

About

A sound installation for the Höxter Botanical Garden that uses acoustic signals from ground microphones to create an immersive and generative electronic soundscape.

The sounds of the soil are made audible and embedded in a complex, noisy electronic system in which it is impossible to know where the soil sounds end and the electronic processing begins. In live electronic performances, this ecological noise system is manipulated and played with.

The installation provides an impulse to ‘ecologise’, to reflect on the relationship between human and more-than-human actors in an ecology, as well as the relationship of the field researcher to his object of research.

A project realised at the KreativInstitut.OWL in collaboration with the Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning Department at the Technical University OWL.
